WHO’S BEHIND THIS.

Hi, I’m Gladiola – a thinker, feeler and quiet observer of the inner world. I created Echoes of a Thought as a space to explore the mind, emotions and the invisible stories we all carry. Here, i write about mental health, self-awareness and the strange beauty of being human.

Embracing Your Main Character Role

You Are the Center of Your Own Universe

I’ve never been a confident person. On the contrary, I’ve often felt like I didn’t belong, like I was never enough. While I’m not claiming to be perfectly secure in my skin now, I have worked hard on accepting myself and, most importantly, respecting myself.

I believe that the journey toward acceptance is a long one, filled with twists and turns.

I have a habit of observing people, and I know I’m not alone in my feelings of insecurity. That’s why, when I see someone who is perfectly confident and comfortable in their own body, it leaves a lasting impression on me. Let me share a moment that struck me.

At a train station in Amsterdam

I noticed a guy in his early 20s. He had a big build, an unusual haircut, and wore very baggy jeans with a torn shirt. Honestly, none of these elements resonated with my personal style. But there was no denying that he had his own unique vibe. He walked with a confidence that made it seem like he was a rockstar navigating through a crowd.

What amazed me most was how engrossed he seemed in his own world. There was no sign of shyness as he walked; he held his head high and looked straight ahead. As a soft rain began to fall, it felt like the drops didn’t even touch him. He was completely relaxed, moving through the moment as if nothing could distract him from where he was headed.

I felt a surge of inspiration mixed with envy. I wished I could possess that same lightness and confidence in my movements. I longed to be unaffected by my surroundings, to walk with such assurance. I couldn’t help but wonder if he even noticed me standing there, probably not in the intense way I noticed him.

It’s incredible how a brief encounter with a stranger can stir so many thoughts and feelings.

And what’s even more amazing is how unaware he is that this post is about him.

Each of us has the potential to be the main character in our own story. We can learn from moments like these, allowing them to inspire us to embrace our unique journeys.

So, here’s to celebrating the small miracles that help us grow, and strive to find our own paths to confidence—one step at a time.

By doing this, we can learn to walk through life with our heads held high, just like that stranger, free from the weight of the world around us.
